Last night, we were honored to host two long-time friends of Goldenwood, Philanthropist Richard Leong and Spiritual Advisor and Advocate Lourine Clark. The evening began with Richard sharing about his journey coming to faith later in life and the unfolding of a growing desire to leave a godly legacy for generations to come. He emphasized the foundation of his generosity–that our wealth ultimately is from God and belongs to God and should be used to bless others. Richard also stressed the importance of multi-generational thinking and intentional preparations taken up within his own family so that future generations may continue impacting the world with generosity. Lourine Clark shared about her experience mentoring and shepherding many spiritual daughters over the years. While she does not have children of her own, Lorena reflected on how responding to God’s call in her life has become her legacy. She emphasized living daily for God’s purposes rather than our own ambitions. Lourine also spoke powerfully about the gospel freeing us from pursuing earthly immortality and calling us to faithful stewardship of our resources for God’s eternal kingdom.
Richard and Lourine then engaged in a discussion around the importance of spiritual discernment in determining where and how to invest time, money, and resources. They agreed on the key role of prayer and surrounding oneself with people who live lives characterized by generosity.
The concept of “minding our mortality” was also explored, with the recognition that avoiding death discussions paradoxically makes us pursue earthly immortality. This provided a beautiful handoff to one of the Dreamers from Goldenwood’s Dream Forum, Eva Ting, who shared about Here to Honor, the organization she founded to normalize end-of-life discussions in our communities. Overall, the event provided inspiration and wisdom for leaving a gospel-infused legacy that outlives us.
We recommend picking up a copy of Richard’s new book, The Legacy Continuum: Building A Multi-Generational Legacy of Radical Generosity and Kingdom Impact, which Goldenwood was honored to endorse.
