Trellis: Life-Giving Rhythms for Seeing Further

In the Norse sagas, “Ragnarok” is the end of the age, the apocalypse that sweeps away gods and men alike. The stories tell of a winter without end, a wolf that devours the sun, and oceans that swallow the land. In that terrible twilight, the watchman Heimdall stands on the rainbow bridge between the realms, eyes trained on the horizon. His task is not to fight first, but to see and to perceive what others cannot. In Neil Gaiman’s version of the tale, Loki, the shape-shifter, taunts Heimdall proclaiming that he has won. And Heimdall replies simply: “I can see further.”
It’s a remarkable sentence as it carries the weight of his gift. Heimdall’s vision is not a trick of sharper eyesight; it’s the ability to perceive the present moment in light of what he knows is coming. In a time when fear narrows the gaze and chaos clouds the air, the ability to see further is both a survival skill and an act of that heralds this future into being.
This is what the Scriptures call vision, not just an ability to anticipate events, but to interpret the present through the lens of God’s promises. It is not naïve optimism, nor is it cynical realism. It is hope with its eyes open.
Over the course of this two-week journey, you’ll be invited into new ways of prayer, learning to walk conversationally with God and to recognize His voice amid the patterns of your life. Trellis offers practices that root you in God’s presence, helping you to weave life-giving rhythms into your days so that you might see further.
This experience will give you both structure and spaciousness—anchored by a community that listens together for God’s leading.

“If a vine doesn’t have a trellis, it will die. And if your life with Jesus doesn’t have some kind of structure to facilitate health and growth, it will wither away…The point of a trellis isn’t to make the vines stand up straight in neat rows, but rather to attain a rich, deep glass of wine.”
